CLASS TODAY

I decided to write todays title in all capital letters just to spice things up a little bit. Todays class was only 40 minutes. It was also the last class before exams, and the day our essays were due. I've never been so happy to turn in a piece of paper. Writing both of those essays was awful and I am so glad I'm done. Also today in class we went over our migration test, which I got a 96% on. I am actually pretty confident going into this exam, and think it will be one of the exams that I do fairly well on. I'll pray.

Sub Day

Today Mr. Schick wasn't here so we had a sub for class today. We were left a blog with directions for what to do, and it said to work on our essays and meet with other students to do peer editing. I had finished my first essay last night so I asked Belle to look over my essay and she made a few helpful corrections. I then started gathering the data and information for my second essay, which I plan to start tonight and finish tomorrow.

Test Day

Today we took a test in class, and now I'm writing my blog in class. The test was pretty easy, except for one question I wasn't exactly sure and just had to take a guess. I didn't even study last night because I totally forgot about the test to be honest, but I wound up being okay I think. After I finish typing this blog I'm going to start my essay, which I probably should've started already but hopefully it doesn't take me that long.

Last of Migration

Today is the day before the test and we spent the class learning the last few slides of the powerpoint. However most of the slides wound up being outdated and I only took about half a page of notes. We also spent the beginning of class talking about exams and we all think its unfair we have to write 2 essays instead of 1 like the other classes. Also apparently we have to write blogs this week along with writing both essays. I will probably fail this migration test tomorrow and I will also probably fail the exam. I'm scared.

Todays Class

Today's class was a rough one. It was one of those classes where Mr. Schick was asked a question and then told a story about it for most of the class. These might be my favorite kind of classes because we don't actually have to do much and we end up taking notes on about 3 slides. It was kind of boring though because there wasn't much to do, and because it was last period I just wanted the day to be over. Mr. Schick said were going to have a test before mid terms which I think is kind of rude because I'm already going to fail mid terms.

Key Issue Four

The fourth question written on Mr. Schicks board given to us at the beginning of the unit asks the question, why do migrants face challenges? We were given a chapter out of the textbook and were told to highlight the main points of this article and then translate it into this blog. The first subtitle Is called, 'Government Immigration Policies'. This section explains the four different policies a certain government has about their country. The four policies are: maintain the current level of immigration, increase the level, decrease the level, or there is no policy. We are one of the 32 countries in the world that want to reduce levels of immigration. The second subtitle that I though had important information was called Unauthorized Immigration. Unauthorized immigrants are immigrants that enter a country without legal or proper documents. This section talked about all the different controversial name titles for unauthorized immigrants, and then went into talking about the different types of people that are unauthorized immigrants. There were multiple names such as, undocumented immigrant and illegal aliens. Along with these two subtitles, there were also problems immigrants had to face such as the quota laws and border issues.

Changing U.S. Immigration

U.S. immigration has drastically changed over the years, as 122 million people have immigrated to the us from 1820-2015. The United States has had three main 'eras' of immigration. The first being the original settlement in the 17th and 18th centuries. The second era of immigration was the time when there was mass European immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. And finally, Again and Latin American immigration in the late 20th and 21st centuries.
The United States immigration in 1790 falls into the first era of immigration. The U.S. had a population of around 3.9 million, and there were 950,000 immigrants. These immigrants came from two main places, Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. However, they were both for different reasons, as Europeans were voluntarily immigrating to the U.S. where Africans were being forced as slaves.
Transferring into the 1820's-1920's, about 32 million people immigrated to the U.S. Of those immigrants 90% came from Europe. In the 1840's-50's, majority was coming from Ireland and Germany. The rate slowly declined during the civil war but then increased in the 1880's when Scandinavia started to immigrate also. In 1905-1914, The annual immigration reached 1 million. Two-thirds of these people came from Southern and Eastern Europe. At this time Germany was the main source of immigrants and had sent 7.2 million people.
In the final era, in around 1930-1940 immigration had actually dropped sharply due to the Great Depression and World War 2. It then began steadily increasing again and surged to its highest levels during the first decade of the 21st century. More than 3/4ths of these immigrants came from Latin America and Again. Officially, Mexico passed Germany in 2006 as the country to send the most immigrants. Mexico still holds this title today in 2018.
